A Song for Matthew and Caitlin Boles

Here is a new song that came to me today. I hope someone likes it enough to put it to music.

Their Love

By Padrig Boles
Sept 2009

Their Love

This two year old held her
And loved her from the start
He was her protector and brother
She had no clue what was to start
She was happy, secure and content
He was fierce and endearing
When the song declared that:
“Caitie” was going to marry that boy Tommy
He told mom at three
That Caities’ not going to marry Tommy!
Caities going to marry me!

We knew the bond was sure
So sure

As different as the could be
He a quiet, athletic over achiever
A temper and inner drive
A mystery to most
Her a smiling, laughing, love bug
A passion to lead and nurture
If they weren’t brother and sister
She would have married that boy
Matt had huge respect for her
Caitie envied his easy way
Loved and revered by all who knew them

We knew the bond was sure
So sure

They grew up side by side
Like an apple and orange in the same pea pod
She watching him, keeping him right
He doting over her, relying on her might
Even the principle thought they were dating
Always together, always different
Claimed they never understood each other
But they always ended up on the same side
A skater icon and the president
The cook and the charmer
Their love was so deep, so spiritual, so real

We knew the bond was sure
So sure

Matt with his growing faith
Caitie with her questing logic
He got A’s without effort
She pulled A’s with much strain
He was the rock star without trying
She loved the spotlight she gained
He only cared for the next big trick
She worried about the animals and the presidential pick
Friends, family and church sustained them
Their passions contained them
Future greatness was apparent

We knew the bond was sure
So sure

They were together
Forever they will be connected
Never to be forgotten
Clear blue eyes and disarming smiles
Faithful friends around them
A legacy of fun, love and freshness
A family that will never be the same
A school with two holes in it’s heart
A community that will never forget
Their love was so deep, so spiritual, so real
Let’s hope we can keep our part of the deal

Fighting Irish

9-21-09

The Fighting Irish
By Padrig Boles

For nearly 300 years
The young Irish men
Who started out in such rude surroundings
With want of food, and religious freedom
They fought the world over
But never for the Emerald Isle
Call them Kern or Galloglass
They would wield axe, or dart or javelin
The Wild Geese would fly where ‘er they were needed
Jacobites, or rangers, like lions did they fight
It mattered not whose army they bled and died for
But never for the Emerald Isle

For nearly 300 years
They did not attend Notre Dame
No these fighting Irish wanted no fame
Just to eat and live and follow the pope
The Shamrocks fought for Stanley, Sansfield, Moffet, for Terry
But never for the Emerald Isle
Whether it be Monterey, Boyn, or Fotenoy
For Spain they toiled
For France they warred
For Britain they marched and attacked as well
They traveled to Africa, the Netherlands and Canada
But never for the Emerald Isle

For nearly 300 years
They would meet their challengers
No discussion ever had they
As they likely spoke a far different tongue
During the Boer or Eighty Year war
But never for the Emerald Isle
For Austria they led
In Italy they were prized
Under the banner Irlanda, Hibernia or Ultonia
In America they fought the Brits twice
320 acres and time for church brought them to Mexico’s aid
But never for the Emerald Isle

For nearly 300 years
For fortune, flag and family
They would stop at river fords
And fight single combat
Till their bloody death
But never for the Emerald Isle
The treaty of Limerick set it
The young Irish men
Who started out in such rude surroundings
With want of food, and religious freedom
Even today they fight
But never for the Emerald Isle

NOTE: I would really like some talented individual to take one or both of my peoms/sons and put them to music!

Tough Year

It has been nearly a year since the accident. I still miss them both dearly. Shannon, Caitlin's little (11 yr old) sister is running for a student government position and we worked on her speech last night, just like I used to do with Caitie. Fun and sad. We will be going through the Temple Endowments at the washington DC temple for Matthew and Caitlin on Nov. 20, 2009. All endowed memebrs are welcome. This is the next big step in their progression and our healing.

Irish Traveller
By Padrig Boles
8-27-09

I am just an Irish guy who feels like a Traveller.
Is it me who is he?

I know no Gammon and I can’t do Cant
Shelta eludes me even though I wish I could

I am just an Irish guy who feels like a Traveller
Is it me who is he?

I keep greyhounds and lurchers as my friends
They eat less and don’t complain

I am just an Irish guy who feels like a Traveller
Is it me who is he?

I am called names; gypsie, gypo
Diddycoy, diddycoy, diddycoy
Names like tinker, pikey
Diddycoy,diddycoy, diddycoy
Am I a knacker or just a cream cracker?
Diddycoy, diddycoy, diddycoy

I am just an Irish guy who feels like a Traveller
Is it me who is he?

I keep moving, not knowing why
I keep moving not knowing where
I keep moving cause I don’t dare stay in one place
And become a settled Traveller

I am just an Irish guy who feels like a Traveller
Is it me who is he?

I like to fight bare knuckled
I can tell a good horse from bad
I’ll fix your roof for cheap
Just don’t ask me to stay long

I am just an Irish guy who feels like a Traveller
Is it me who is he?
Diddycoy, diddycoy, diddycoy
