Edward Thomas Teancum Hughes
By Padrig Boles
December 2009
He was my favorite hero from the Book of Mormon
Took on the most difficult and daring missions
Probably knew he would not live long
Went and did as he knew he must
Teancum Oh, Teancum
Was not afraid of any man
Did not shy away, show fear or submit
Felt pain, hunger and abandonment
Warrior was his middle name
Teancum, Oh, Teancum
We met on the phone one dreary day
He called to offer his love and condolences
The Kids had just passed away
I was sad, he was loving in every way
Eddie, Oh Eddie Hughes
I did not know him, but that mattered not
He spoke with conviction having faced death himself
I could feel his spirit, that father of nine
He understood me and he was kind
Eddie, Oh Eddie Hughes
He had beaten caner and was so strong
No fear, no loathing, just happy to be here
Beautiful wife and nine golden children
Missionaries, leaders, what great support
Eddie, Oh Eddie Hughes
Like Teancum he had a mission
A mission so tough, so daunting
He knew what it entailed before he left
So when the cancer came back, no regrets
Edward Thomas Teancum Hughes
He is small now, body shrunken
With tumors treated we hope for the best
His spine and brain ravaged, his priesthood intact
His mission not over, the best yet to come
Edward Thomas Teancum Hughes
He is my current day personal hero
I marvel at how he faces his plight
Knew this life was not to be easy
But he gladly took this earthly fight
Edward Thomas Teancum Hughes
I hope he is given the time he needs
That family who lives and loves and needs
He is an inspiration to one and all
I am so proud to call him my pal
Edward Thomas Teancum Hughes
